Body language and knowing your own dog
Here is a good blog post by Stacy Braslau-Schneck about body language in dogs. One point she makes that I think is worth repeating and emphasizing is that it is so important to know your own dog. That is, know how your dog normally carries his or her ears and tail, what a relaxed posture looks like, et cetera. By becoming familiar with how your dog looks when comfortable and relaxed, you can learn to read the signs that your dog gives to say that he or she is becoming apprehensive or stressed. When you see changes from that relaxed and comfortable state, you can ask yourself what is going on in the environment that might be bothering your dog, and look for ways to make him or her feel better.

Canine communication - Dogs don't always get along
A great article about canine communication: "No Fighting, No Biting - Dogs Don't Always Get Along". This article has great insight about dog body language, how dogs communicate, and the dangers of people trying to suppress the natural communication dogs do. As humans, we don't all get along all the time, why do we expect our dogs to be able to do so? It's so important for us to understand how dogs communicate, so we don't get in their way!

Online study of human interpretations of dog behaviour
Columbia University is doing a very cool study of human interpretations of dog behaviour. The online study takes about half an hour, but you can save your survey and come back to it later if you want to. It was fascinating, and I can't wait to see the results!
If you're in the Westport, CT area, you can also apply to take part in an in-person study.
